I created this blog, my first ever, to share my love for bicycles. I love to ride them and build them. I have a special interest in commuting and building commuter bikes.

Trek 800 rebuilt to compete with the Rivendell Atlantis.
These are some quick photos of my Trek 800 which I rebuilt into a heavy duty randonneur, allrounder bike. I repainted it with fall colors. I made the mud flaps from an old weight lifting belt.
some more of my bicycle projects
This bike started life as a 1980's high tensile steel Schwinn mountain bike with cheap parts. I rebuilt using: Shimano Nexus 7 speed rear wheel and Shimano Inter L generator front wheel.
Crank is from a 1980s schwinn 5 speed
Chaincase was purchased in 1988 in the Netherlands
Chain is from my old garage door opener
Handlebars and stem are from a 1978 batavus dutch bike
Fenders are 1930s vintage
Tires are balloon type 26x2.1
I painted everything black to look like the world war 1 and 2 bikes. I even painted the spokes and hubs. I have yet to add the dynamo tail light.

Pictures of my first commuter bicycle
This bike was made after being inspired by other internet ideas like the French porteur and randonneurs. I used a Schwinn Frontier frame and fork and had some heavy duty racks welded on. In the 2 years that I rode back and forth to work it went through many revisions. Finally ending up cut into pieces after I tried to change the spacing of the rear triangle to accommodate a Sturmey Archer hub. The rear rack transferred the bending forces unpredictably and I was not able to get it right. I have since built three other commuter bikes which I will post later when I have more time.
